Cathy Potdevin
An artist of many mediums, Catherine Potdevin is most recently focusing her creative efforts on modern quilting and textile renewal. In the quilting world, Catherine is best known for adding her own creative spin to traditional patterns and blending thrifted fabrics with high-end materials.
A graduate from UC Davis, Catherine began her artistic career as a painter, exploring a variety of different motifs and styles. As her style progressed, so did her mediums, where she started sampling different canvases for her creative expression. She began upcycling pre-loved denim, a pivotal moment that inspired the launch of SpencerManon. While she continued to paint, it wasn’t until 2018 that Catherine discovered quilting.
While thrifting in Manhattan Beach, she came upon an unexpected haul of used board shorts. The idea hit: “These would make a great quilt.” That moment sparked this new journey, leading her to sign up for a quilt class at South Bay Adult School. By 2019, she had joined AAQLA, and tapped into a powerful network of quilters. Since then, Catherine has begun teaching at her local quilt shop, with several of her works being featured in quilt shows.
Since then, Catherine has joined forces with her daughter, Estelle Potdevin, a fresh MS graduate in Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Innovation, to take SpencerManon in a new direction. Together, they blend Catherine's artistic background with Estelle's innovative edge to push quilting into new, uncharted territory.
Through their work, they hope to redefine the quilting world while embracing traditional techniques, creating distinctive pieces that combine luxury and sustainability in a way that feels fresh and refined.
