Andrea Franco is a Peruvian visual artist and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, CA. Her work explores the connections between the sea, her Sephardic heritage and the places she inhabits. Franco’s current body of work delves into the emotional, cultural, mystical, and mythological significance of water, drawing on its role as a silent witness and guardian of mysteries.
Her multidisciplinary practice often questions how we perceive and interact with the world around us. She is deeply interested in how the moving images she creates can evoke a sense of unstable stillness and a profound connection to the cyclical events of reality. Through immersive techniques, she summons hidden currents of mysticism and emotion, inviting viewers to uncover the submerged landscapes of their inner world.
Her films and artworks has been exhibited in institutions and festivals such as: Guggenheim Museum (New York), Pacific Standard Time (Los Angeles), Museum of the Moving Image (New York), Museo de Arte de Lima, Matadero Madrid, Flaherty Seminar (New York), REDCAT (Los Angeles), Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions, Cineteca Nacional de Mexico, Museo Metropolitano de Lima, Lima Film Festival. Franco is the recipient of the Best National Film Award at Lima Alterna Film Festival 2021. She received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts.
